About Volynian Polissya National Nature Park

Established in 2004, Volynian Polissya National Nature Park protects a representative portion of the unique Polissya landscape located in northwestern Ukraine’s Volyn region. The park encompasses a diverse mosaic of wetlands, including peat bogs, floodplain meadows, river floodplains, pine and mixed forests, and small lakes, all representative of the East European Polissya natural zone. Its flat, lowland terrain and abundant water bodies create vital habitats for rare and endangered species, including a variety of migratory birds like the white-tailed eagle and black stork, as well as mammals such as Eurasian beaver and elk. The park’s ecological richness makes it a prime destination for birdwatchers, naturalists, and photographers. Visitors can enjoy hiking and trekking on marked paths that wind through pine forests and along watercourses, as well as nature observation platforms and guided tours that highlight the park’s biodiversity and cultural heritage. The park also encompasses cultural landmarks such as traditional Polissya villages nearby and remnants of peasant architecture, providing insight into the region’s human-nature interaction. With its tranquil, minimally developed landscapes and focus on conservation, Volynian Polissya National Nature Park appeals to those seeking peaceful immersion into one of Europe’s last large wetlands and forest complexes. It is a crucial refuge for regional biodiversity and an important area for environmental education and ecological tourism in Ukraine.
